What would Slayers be without good ol sorcery? Not much I can tell ya that. The magic in Slayers is really some of the best I've seen in fantasy anime with a wide variety of spells ranging from simple light spells to the all mighty Dragon Slave! And they are all at Lina Inverse's disposal. ^_~

In Slayers Try we witness the use of holy magic by Filia-chan that is supposed to be long forgotten. These holy spells are strong forms of black and white magic. White magic is as vast as black magic and includes but not limited to healing, banishing evil entities, and protection. Black magic are spells that are highly destructive since they call on the power of mazoku and are mostly offensive.

Flame Breath (fureimu buresu):
This is an immensely powerful black spell that invokes the power of Karyuuou, the fire dragon king. Because of its overwhelming power only high-level dragons have the magical capability to control it. When chanted a burst of energy shoots from the castor's mouth. It is used as an offensive attack.

Chaotic Disintegrate (kaotikku disutingureito):
Another powerful holy spell that was said to be long forgotten and can only be performed by high-level dragons. Once cast a wall of blue energy is formed that attacks a mazoku from the astral plane. It is an even stronger spell than flame breath.

Valgarv like most mazoku does not use specific spells and uses only energy blasts or beams but most of his power came from Garv. He can do most of the other mazoku talents such as teleport and fight in the astral plane. Also he still has most of his ryuzoku abilities such as his dragon strength and transformation. Although he can only summon his wings, the process is a rather painful ordeal since his ryuzoku blood and mazoku blood clash. He does effectively wield the Dark Star weapon Ravdomezehis, a double-ended spear that creates blades of energy from the holder's will. The amount of power Ravdomezehis can possess depends on the strength of the wielder. For example even with the odds against him, Valgarv managed to put a nicely dealt blow to Xellos in the astral plane.
